Halle Berry (44) has a messy pixie. The very short sides are neat but somewhat layered; whereas the top is filled with beachy personality. The roughed-up edges and multiple angles create a cool spot of organized chaos. This pixie has rugged flair worthy of a weekend warrior or outdoorsy girl. It's a reintroduction of her earlier style but it's so copied it's now virtually iconic. Great option if you're bored with your bob and want to go shorter.

Kam Carman (47) enjoys a shoulder-length bob with half bangs that is fashionably layered. It's a brilliant blonde creation. The subtle layers start at her chin and continue down to the ends. They are done with a razor, add softness, and are common today on hairstyles for women of all ages. (Courtesy Fox News Detroit)

Jennifer Aniston (42) has a new haircut and it's a medium bob. Love Jen; not thrilled by the style. It isn't very exciting. There are several current bobs and this version is the least creative of them all. It's not as if we've never seen this before. It really isn't new or original. How is this different from many what others already have and she herself had in 2001?
Safe may be ideal for her age as a mature woman who is now in her early 40s. But she still looks as if she's in her 30s, so she could have done something cutting edge or much more daring. The color isn't fascinating, either. For those who have hoped and waited years to see an amazing new style from her, this is a disappointment. It is boring minimalism.
Her hairdresser said bobs are simple and sexy. The former is often true; the latter is typically false. Anna Wintour has a simple one but nobody ever said it was hot. Compared to Victoria Beckham's famous bob of 2007, Aniston's is nothing special. Victoria's was complicated and sexy; Jen's is the opposite.
If this design had been done on a hairdressing show like Shear Genius, it would not get rave reviews for thinking outside the box. So why did a top expert like Mr. McMillan not stretch his skills and wow us?
Of course there's a story to go with it. She didn't want to look like a Real Housewife. Ouch! Is that a good reason to get a makeover? The irony is that their long layered hairstyles are hotter than this one, so she really hasn't successfully one-upped them. Earlier in 2011 she offended many women when she slammed the Rachel; and now she's indirectly attacking the Housewives.
It's also a curious choice because several years ago she had a short bob which wasn't very different from this cut, and she said she hated it. Remember this?

Chris McMillan was right about one thing. He said she was overdue for a change. As recently as a few weeks ago this site was calling for her to get a makeover (not literally to his office, lol!), because she hadn't done anything with her hair since about 2005. The question now is whether she'll quickly lose interest as she did with her previous bob, and try something new very soon.
That's not to say her hairstyle in and of itself is bad and doesn't work well for many others. It's just that when there's a celebrity of her stature and history of having had the most famous haircut ever created, you expect much more. Probably lots of ladies will copy her new look. Just when you thought bobs were going to go out of fashion, Ms. Aniston will likely keep that from happening. Three stars out of five is a fair rating.
