Fall 2008 Hairstyle Trends

Excerpt:

"We got the scoop from Asia Gonzalez-Dent, owner and stylist at Lift Hair Studio in Astoria, NY, on the latest tress trends. From new cuts to color, there are lots of styling options this season.

"We're seeing shorter hair, and more precision cuts, like Katie Holmes' variations on the bob," says Gonzalez-Dent.

According to the stylist, looks will be more textured than in the past, and layers will abound.

"Really classic, long, flowing hair is still in, but it won't have as much volume—it'll be softer.

"Bangs are still popular, but they, too, will be softer. You'll see less of the 'mod, chunky bangs' and more 'mid-lengths,' where hair is at just above the shoulders but not really short," says the expert.

"As always, ringlets are a warm weather mainstay for naturally curly girls."

p. 28 has a good section called "Bring on the bobs." It includes some edgy styles and colors. There's one "on fire" bob, for example, described like this:

"If you don't want to let go of your geometric haircut, give it an update via bold fuchsia tones over red wine. Come fall, all you have to do is reverse the colors for a different effect."

After that on p. 31, they tell you how you could use Jessica Simpson clip-in extensions to get a bob like Katie Holmes. (Maybe Katie should start her own line of bob wigs.)

"Hairdo 10" Clip-In Straight Extension ($90): these straight strands let you go from short to long in a flash. The one-piece extension falls to the shoulders for a sleek bob like Katie Holmes's."
