2010 Hairstyles Pictures [+] The Fall and Winter 2009 hairstyles magazine entitled "Hair Preview 2010" is full of potential new 2010 hairstyles. There are photos of women's hair styles not just from America but also around the world. Indeed there is a strong international flavor because many of the pictures of new haircuts were taken in English-speaking countries such as the UK and Australia as well as in Europe. It is on sale until November 2009. You can buy it online, at a magazine rack, or at a bookstore. Hair Preview 2010 is 146 pages long, divided into 29 sections, and has 2,500+ styles. New Haircut Trends
[+] The October 2009 issue of Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide has Jennifer Aniston on the cover. It is the annual forecast issue of SHG with a look ahead to the new year in its special section: "New Hair Trends 2010."
Many of the top hairstylists were asked their opinion on what will be the most popular hairstyles in 2010. There are 17 pages of quotes and pictures of trend-setting stars. The experts provided their ideas on both the kinds of haircuts we'll see in '10, plus which celeb ladies will be most influential. But they were not so bold as to predict which celebrities will be wearing what cuts. Ironically, Jennifer Aniston is on the cover of the 2010 issue and Taylor Swift is the lead into the trend section--even though neither woman has changed her look recently and doesn't change her hair style very often. Maybe next year Jen will finally grace us with her first new hairstyle since 2006!
Jennifer Aniston's hairstyle in the summer Below is a list of famous women whom the magazine's guest pundits suggest we can expect to lead the next trends in color and style:
VersatilityVersatility is a theme or idea for 2010 haircuts which more than one hairdresser predicts. "Versatility will dominate in 2010," foresees Lois Sonstegard of Whirl-a-Style. "We've grown accustomed to change and we will want to change our hair on a whim. Cuts that allow styles to be easily maintained and yet allow maximum flexibility will be popular. "Classic looks will have a new twist--a little fanciful touch added to make the style understated at times, and bold at others. Hair will be more purposeful and put together. This isn't the time to arrive at an event looking like you just rolled out of bed." "If we have one word to remember in 2010," echoes Danny Lapointe of Clairol Professional International, "it will be versatile. People want to have more options with their haircut. "Fringe remains popular--sweeping and sexy or short and rounded are all in fashion. Whether it's short or long, styles will be soft, beautiful, and have an extra healthy shine." The move towards versatile hairstyles suggests there will be a new shift towards longer hair, because obviously the more hair you have, generally speaking, the more options you can enjoy. Expect pixies to grow out, and women to let their bobs lengthen. "The ultimate Fall and Winter 2009/2010 hair trend is longer hair," says Diana Richardson, the Health and Beauty editor for the Tampa Examiner. "With longer hair lengths, it is good for most face shapes and body types and you can try several options. While the short bob has not taken its final bow, this fall it is fading out slowly, and taking a backstage to longer flowing locks and natural hair styles." Diversity"Diversity is the key thing for 2010," suggests Damien Carney, Artistic Director of Joico Laboratories. "There will always be people who like long hair and those who like short hair, so cuts and styles will be adapted to the individual. Everything is a strong look that makes a big statement."
Victoria Beckham's hair highlights viewed from the back on Sept. 10. The contrast is moderate but the amount and placement makes the coloring an attractive modern choice for very dark brown hair. It's neither too flashy nor so subtle it's almost missed.
Rihanna is a model of cool bold highlights for black hair. It's time for bright streaks to become fashionable again! The subtle and moderate colors are getting tired; it's about time they became "out" and strong came roaring back "in." Young women can differentiate themselves again from mature ladies who now only wear subtle highlighting. It's been years (2002?) since extremes were big (like when Kelly Clarkson made them hip). Hopefully that is about to change. Aren't you tired yet of ultra-conservative colors everywhere in Canada and America? If they don't suit your personality, why choose them? ColorWhat is the fashionable hair color in 2010? "Color is a mix of extremes," says Teri Claiborne, Director of Claiborne's Salon in Atlanta, GA. "Bright shades created with metallic color will make anyone stand out. A more subdued look will also be popular, where color is blended for a soft, finished look." "All shades will be in," opines Sue Pemberton, VeroColor Artistic Director, "as it will be about the individual projecting their own style. Blondes will have lowlights of pastel lavenders and blues. Reds will have tones in magenta and purples with coppers and golds. Brunettes will have vivid and strong panels of fashion tones in blues." "No color is off limits this year!" agrees Danny Lapointe at Clairol. "Blonde, brunette, and redhead are all in fashion, as long as they are soft, shiny, and multidimensional tones that look natural." To find out all the other hair trends coming soon, and photos of them, pick up the latest issue of SHG (on sale for $5.99 until October 18). BobsBob haircuts for 2010: what will they look like? Will they get shorter or longer or stay the same length? Ladies, you need to be careful about your next bob hairstyle decision. There have been some edgy bobs in recent years, including, of course, Victoria Beckham's famous hit, the Pob, but there have also been a few big misses, too.
Katy Perry's bob, featured on SHG's cover, has been described as "a shattered bob with femme fringe." That is charitable. Let's be honest. Although the jet black color is okay, the cut itself is so severe and so blunt it looks like a helmet! Even the bangs are mostly blunt. Katie Holmes had a basic bob for a while but then her hair kept getting shorter to the point where it got too short in 2009. At some stage you need to decide, "It's time to grow it out" instead of snipping it yet again--or go much shorter--to a pixie. There isn't a lot of middle ground between bobs and pixies that is flattering. Celebrity Bob to Pixie MakeoverIn '09 this site predicted the trend toward shorter hair with the Bob to Pixie Makeover using an older example by Jennie Garth after Victoria Beckham underwent another radical transformation. Expect this to continue in '10 with late adopters. Sharon Lawrence is a good recent example for mature women who are considering the fashionable change.
Before
After
Sharon got this haircut in August. It is trendy and pretty with the bonus of making the middle-aged actress look a little younger, too.
Caroline Manzo's hairdo also has bangs but it is a little longer than Sharon's, so it can be softer and more wispy. That's a gorgeous warm red haircolor and especially perfect for the fall season. Her short hair is really thick; it could be a little thinner on the sides; but it's still a very attractive cut and color. (She has since had the sides reduced.) Caroline is one of The Real Housewives Of New Jersey. Fall 2009 hairstyles are a very good way to predict what the popular style next year will be. Black CelebritiesIf Halle Berry continues to be a style icon for African American women as she has been for several years, the 2010 black hairstyles trend could toward very short hair.
Long and luscious locks in February
Halle did try a trendy bob in between the long cut and her latest hairdo. In fact it had some personality with lots of strong medium blonde hair highlights and dramatic shape. It was big, fancy, and rather unique--one of the stand-out celeb bobs of the year.
Halle Berry's new very short haircut This latest look is not too different from her hot hairdos around 2003. It has less texture and it's more spiky or "messed up" in places on top. It's very simple and easy to do as you can imagine. Maybe too simple for some girls while it could be perfect and fast for busy professionals and students who don't have time to fuss. One current hair design among some young African American girls is half (or a third) of their head shaved. It is sort of a punk look. Cassie is the latest black celebrity to join Estelle and Fantasia Barrino with the extreme design.
Cassie at 2009 MTV Video Music Awards
Sarah Harding's new short haircut at London Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2010. The UK celebrity hairstyles icon has a look similar to Cassie's (much shorter on one side). It makes you wonder if white chicks will copy the potential trend of black girls. Probably not enough African American girls have done it yet to make it officially a trend. Maybe it will be the new "funky" look of the wild or rock crowd. Short not for everyoneVery short hairstyles like crops and pixies may be too different for a lot of ladies especially if they've never had it so short before. Even less dramatic changes can be a problem. Reality TV star Ramona Singer, according to the latest issue of Star magazine (September 14), "chopped off her long locks on August 20 just before a red carpet runway party." "I wanted to shake things up," she said." Bad decision, she felt, only two days later. "I'd never do it again," she complained. "No one recognizes me!"
Diablo Cody's very short hairstyle in June '09 (above) and two months later (below) after she had a hair color makeover from very dark brown to an ultra pale shade of blonde.
Best of '09 continued in '10The top short hairstyle of 2010 may turn out to be one of the most popular hairstyles of 2009. The best styles are usually trendy for at least a year or two (e.g. Posh's Bob). If they are particularly hot, like the Rachel was over a decade ago, they last much longer.
"Everybody wants it!" Kate Gosselin claims when referring to her cool new hairstyle. "My stylist gets calls from all across the country." In Touch magazine may be ahead of some 2010 hairstyles magazines in its focus on her unique hairdo. (It actually published the exact same photo above in its September 14, 2009 issue.) But the mag then goes a little far, stretching our imagination by suggesting women (Victoria Beckham and Sharon Osbourne) and even some men (David Cook, Adam Lambert, Christian Siriano) have copied her cut! To be fair, it seems Kate's haircut is similar to--if not based on--Posh Spice's style. They are both parted on the right and weighted on the left.
You can easily see the structural similarities, but it is different because it is much neater. Professional women can wear it to work without trouble. The very short spiky top stands in sharp contrast to the long, heavy, front panel. Kate Gosselin's multitonal highlights are much more impressive than the colors of Victoria Beckham's bob and promise to give it wider appeal for anyone who wants a new cut and color. (Victoria either didn't have any streaks or they were so subtle you could easily miss them.) The contrast between Kate's smooth front and rough top helps make it unique enough to become a hit. It's a very fresh haircut or a decent update for ladies who want an alternative to the Pob. Something that is more conservative yet also fun and fashionable. Add to that the exposure the busy mother and divorcee is getting--in America and Canada TV this fall, winter, and (presumably) all through 2010--and we can expect it to get more attention. Its popularity could also grow because it would probably suit a significant female age range: women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, and perhaps even some older teen girls, too.
Elisha Cuthbert's cute new short hairstyle. It has nice overall shape with great chunky pieces, some twists, and some waves. It's a great improvement and much more stylish than her previous very plain, center-parted medium cut.
Naomi Watts just got bobbed! Her new fall 2009 hairstyle as of Sept. 17 has fairly blunt edges but also some light layering. Very cute medium bob! Pic is from her appearance in New York for a fashion designer. The actress from Australia had long locks before this fashionable extreme makeover and for the last several years she's had long hairstyles. (That could help explain why she's a very late adopter.) It's another sign the trend of bobs may continue for at least another season or year. But will there be additional changes from simple to sophisticated, or vice versa?
Sept. 15. Taylor Momsen with very long blonde hair extensions in soft, and sexy wavy 1980s style at New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2010. Taylor could become a celebrity hair model for 2010 teen hairstyles if she could keep the same design for more than a week. She changes her hair almost as often as AnnaLynne McCord. Both those girls can inspire teenagers with many cool or fresh ideas. AnnaLynne is a former model herself and so she is used to seeing her hair and makeup looks changing often. (She was on the cover of a hair magazine last year.)
The latest fashion shows for coming clothes collections have not provided a lot of new ideas for haircuts trends. Many of the fashion models on the runways had their hair pulled back or pulled up and tied in tight buns. Better economic times if we come out of the recession as expected could affect fashion and hairstyles as they have in the past, leading us away from very conservative looks. LA Times fashion critic Booth Moore sees the 1980s inspiring a Spring 2010 fashion trend. What was the hair like back then? It was captured in the expression "Big 80s hair." It would not be too surprising to see the pendulum move back from the recent popularity of short cuts to long hairstyles--especially with the modern advantage of quality extensions.
[+] Kimberly Caldwell on the cover of the Winter 2010 Short Hair magazine from Celebrity Hairstyles. "The 70s shag has made a big comeback," says the mag's beauty editor, "and Kimberly Caldwell gives the look a cool, modern vibe. Choppy layers take off when hair is styled with mousse and a vent brush, followed by flat-ironing at the ends. Lightly back-comb the roots to finish."
Kim's previous haircut is still enormously popular with most visitors rating it a five-star hairstyle. (The main differences between the new and old version is flips and pieceyness.) This newest one is just as cool. The jagged or spiky design is consistent not only on the sides but also at the fringe. But beyond Kim, this hairstyle magazine cover is one of the best in years, because it has so many first-rate photos of new hairstyles. You must click the "+" link just below the image above to get a closer look. You'll see the latest haircuts of women such as: Ginnifer Goodwin; Sarah Harding; Jessica Stroup; Marion Cotillard; Ashley Greene; Jaime Pressly; Pink; Katie Holmes; Katherine Heigl; Jenna Elfman; Victoria Beckham; Kellie Pickler; Paris Hilton; Agyness Deyn; and Rachel McAdams. Even though the featured hot new hairstyle is described as a 70s shag, the magazine says: "Short cuts this winter will be taking their inspiration from the 60s, with a special nod to fashion icon Mary Quant, who was known for the Mod Sassoon bob she and her models popularized."
"Bobs will be more structured this season with shorter bangs," suggests Ryan Teal of Teal Salon in Portland, Oregon. "Hairdressers have a tendency to put bangs in the eyes, but you'll see a shorter fringe just tracing the brow." Mod could make a comeback, but what is "mod"? "It started in the late '60s," explained Elle Girl magazine in August 2003 when mod was returning to fashion, "with clothes that were all about hyper-bright colors, space-age geometric cutouts, A-line minis and sexy Europeans on Vespa scooters."

[+] Short Hair Style Guide (Winter 2009; on sale till November 30) has 1,500+ new styles for 2010. It offers the freshest and coolest looks for all textures including a section of "The New Night Glamour: Red Carpet Tips & Tricks." Pictures of Celebrity Makeovers show which stars rock Winter's top trends. Hip cuts include: shags, crops, curls, and layered styles. Cover girls are: Rachel McAdams with cute short curls; a gorgeous blonde girl in a "pumped-up pixie" with a heavy fringe; Ginnifer Goodwin's simple crop; Reese Witherspoon's retro blonde waves; a redhead model in a "red-hot shag" with nice flips; and Katy Perry's bowl-cut bob. What are the Top 10 sexiest short hairstyles of the moment? Buy the 130-page resource to find out. The "Fabulous 15" celebrity short cuts it shows off start with Halle Berry in her "piecey pixie." The magazine says it's fresh again with "of-the-moment appeal from tousled layers and shiny dark color." British star Pixie Geldoff has her cool very short pixie in platinum blonde color. Her fringe is about an inch or more above her eyes; its edges are beautifully cut somewhere between choppy and soft. It still looks feminine but only just.
Kherington Payne's shaggy bob caught the mag's attention. She has highlights in at least two colors: blonde and ginger(?). It's sweet, modern, and easy to style every day. Australian Ruby Rose has an edgy new hairstyle that develops the trend towards full top and buzzcut sides. It also has a surprising splash of color--not exactly highlights--at the front in the middle. Soap star Ashley Greene has very subtle highlights in her tapered brunette bob; she appears to be growing it out. It's angled in the front and covers her eye a little on one side. Other short celebrity hairstyles they liked were those of: Agyness Deyn; Angel McCord; and Ginnifer Goodwin. Then there's model-turned-actress Jaime Pressly, who has cut off a lot of her hair and now sports a very short haircut that is about two inches shorter than chin length. Somehow it seems to be a permanent formal hairstyle. This was her update on a simple bob. Look out for black celebrity Selita Banks; Kelly Carlson, who still has pretty much her signature style; Marion Cotillard; Jenna Elfman; and Brea Grant. What are the 2010 trends for short hairstyles? * pixies
Halle Berry's messy-on-top new pixie hair cut for African American women (New York City, Nov. 16) Short Hair magazine doesn't clearly say the pixie will be fashionable--and only reveals a limited number of celebs with pixies--but it does provide photos of 33 different pixies! (See pp. 84-89). Bowl-shaped hairstyles are a tough sell. They always have been and probably always will be. How do you get a bowlcut and have people not think you cut your own hair? Perhaps the only way is if it becomes a big trend... So many girls have it that everyone knows it was a professional cut. Warning: bowls make you look younger by 1-20 years. Strict, precise shapes conflict with the liberated women who are most likely to feel comfortable being unique or radically different. But retro haircuts could certainly catch on in '10. In fact, one celebrity gossip magazine in the last week has declared retro wavy hairstyles are back. It provided several examples of stars to make the point it's the latest fashion. Big 80s hair could be the new trend to merge the two projected themes of big and retro. Funky bangs becoming fashionable is a good guess after the Posh Bob. But it's a big contrast from bowls. Can you imagine during 2010 seeing in the same place lots of women with precise bowlcuts and many with wild, asymmetrical hairstyles plus funky bangs? November 16, 2009
"Hollywood's hot new trend," says L&S, is retro waves. Examples for each primary hair length are: Kim Kardashian (long); Jenny McCarthy (medium); and Rachel McAdams (short). "A-List stars are ditching their curling irons for easy-to-use rollers. The result? Bouncy, sexy tresses!"
Sara Paxton (21) is the celebrity hair model who shows you how to get the look. Hot rollers to achieve her sexy, trendy hairstyle are rated: * Remington T-Studio Heated Clip Rollers (3.5/4)
* Caruso Professional ProSet Steam Hairsetter (2.5) * Conair Xtreme Instant Heat Multisized Hot Rollers (3.5) * Hot Tools Professional Model HTS1400 12-Piece Tourmaline Hairsetter (1.5) * Bed Head BH600 Light Me Up 20-Piece Hairsetter (3) (The above links take you to Amazon.com where you can buy these trendy hairstyling tools online. Sandra Bullock's blonde hair style in The Blind Side movie. She's a natural brunette, of course, so the new color makeover makes her look very different. Her broken-up bangs that "fan out" are very pretty. Hair Stylist's Corner
