(Click on [+] links below for full-size images)

Alyson Michalka (19) with ultra sexy down hair

Camilla Belle (22) looks so adorable in this big style with extreme flips! It could use a little more moisture, however, to control the frizz.

Rumer Willis (20) with simple red bob. It has bold color but low-key texture. Last year she had black hair, but this haircolor is better on her. It brings out her eyes perfectly.

Faith Hill (41) with her latest medium to short hairstyle (November 24, 2008). Simple structure with layers, it is wispy at the fringe. Soft look that's easy to maintain or dress up with a hot blowout.

Reese Witherspoon (32) looking very cute with her new short haircut specially styled with very big fun curls for a fancy evening out (Nov. 20). It has some huge chunks and a retro look of the old Hollywood tradition.

Christina Aguilera (27) has returned to curly hair like she had a few years ago, but now it's shoulder-length instead of short. She also has very short bangs that are razor-cut and angled. That type of fringe is extreme and uncommon for any length but especially on medium hairstyles. It also looks different because her hair is so straight at the bangs but so curly on the sides. One obvious effect is it elongates her face. It takes a brave girl and a courageous hairstylist to even attempt short bangs because if you make a mistake, you're stuck with it for a while!

Demi Lovato (16) at the 2008 American Music Awards. Lustrous brown hair with big curls and choppy fringe. Decent evening teen hairstyle even if her curls are a little on the extreme side.

Mena Suvari (29) has a new short bob with very straight fringe (October 30, 2008). It has graduated layers from the corner of her eye to her jaw. Very retro look (late 1920s), but also the latest version of the two-year-old bob trend.

Victoria Beckham (34) with very short dark hairstyle on October 18, 2008. It is enhanced with a discrete wide black headband. For the night out the fashion icon wore a sharp black vest over a bright white button-down shirt. It's her chic new evening look.

Eva Longoria's new fancy hairdo. This is one of the most stylish formalized bobs today. Quite the coif!

[+] November 2008 Celebrity Hairstyles

Blake Lively (20) of Gossip Girls is front and center for this late fall issue of CH. Blake has a soft, feminine, face-framing long hairstyle that is colored blonde. Great choice if you want a glamorous everyday hairstyle because it looks great and is easy to do. Inside you can find out her "girly glam style secrets."

Another TV show for teens that may become as popular as GG this fall is the reincarnation of Beverly Hills 90210, that big teen show of the 1990s. So the editors of this hair magazine get a jump on that with a sneak peek of the young stars' sexy looks that you might like to copy and try yourself.

It isn't even August yet and this mag is already out with a back-to-school hairstyle guide that includes Fall 2008's coolest trends (they hope). They predict the hair designs of Paris Hilton, Emanuella, Elisha Cuthbert, Fergie, and Gwyneth Paltrow will be fashionable. Pretty good guesses?

A few teenage girls (or more) may be interested in what guys think about their hairstyles when they're back in school, so inside you can get male opinions. "Men pick the sexiest looks." Most magazines on hair don't bother to get guys' input but once in a while they ask about four or five. Hardly a scientific sample, but still slightly interesting.

CH this month is another full edition offering over 850 different modern if not brand new hairstyles. (Some get recycled from earlier months if they are good enough to show again.)

Besides the fall '08 preview you can also check out a big 2009 hairstyles preview! Who and what will be hot next year? Will Katie Holmes and bobs be forgotten? Is their time almost past? There's a nice side profile photograph of her on this cover. Also we see shots of a few famous women who are frequently making the hair magazine covers this year, including: Taylor Swift; Sarah Jessica Parker; Julianne Hough; and Kat Heigl; Lauren Conrad; Miley Cyrus; and Charlize Theron.

[+] Meg Ryan

Most of the content is familiar but this particular issue has a first: tips on how to get Victoria's Secret model hair. You probably don't know this, but another hair mag recently noted that quite a few women now go to a hair salon with a picture of a VS model instead of celebrities. And why not if they have the sexiest hair?

"Clients bring in a lot of pictures from the Victoria's Secret catalogs," says Mikel James, colorist at the Okyo Salon in Washington, DC. They are inspired by supermodels like Alessandra Ambrosio; Heidi Klum; and Adriana Lima, James says (SHG, Aug. 08).

Giselle Bunchen is a VS model, and her hairstyles have often been requested at salons for years. Harper's Bazaar (or another fashion magazine like Allure) once predicted she would be a hairstyle icon. She herself says she considers her hair one of her best assets and many women agree.

[+] June/July 2008 Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide

Lauren Conrad (22) gets another hairstyle magazine cover in a short time span for this issue of SHG. (Celebrity Hairstyles got her on another; see below.)

The summer 2008 issue has a good side picture of the famous Katie Holmes Bob. Kellie Pickler's cool short cut is also on the cover. Other featured womens' haircuts include the classic, popular, and similar long hairstyles of Carrie Ann; Miley Cyrus; Ashley Tisdale; Roselyn Sanchez; Lyndsy Fonseca; Sara Paxton; and Sarah Jessica Parker. Her blowout actually looks hotter than most of the other girls half her age.

Inside there are many great photos including a hot shot of Cate Blanchett with messy slash tousled slash disheveled short hair. She has piecey layers all over the place.

By request there are pics of Jennifer Aniston's bob hairstyle (from a few years ago); and Jennie Garth's cute and fancy short cut (formalized) from her 90210 days.

What's the haircolor fashion news? "Step out in style this season with a hot new snip that makes good on a promise of a bold, high-fashion cut and color. Modern bobs, shags, and page-boy inspired shapes partner with rich, intense tones and highlights in these unforgettable looks from PON International in Anaheim, California."

Then they show pictures of the coolest new cuts and colors from front, back, and sides. These are some brilliant ideas! One of the cool coloring styles has a blonde base and then about an inch or more of chocolate color at the back right at the ends all the way across. The line separating the colors is kind of jagged in a really cool way, i.e., not super straight (p. 70). Haute stuff!

Taylor Swift (18) with curls

Ashley Tisdale (23) with layers

Selena Gomez (16)

Jordin Sparks (18) has dark caramel highlights using clip-in hair extensions

Taylor Momsen (15) with bangs

[+] August 2008 Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide

Kristen Bell graces the cover of the new SHG and models some of the sexiest blonde styles of the summer. Other "It" girls who are covered include: Lauren C.; Ashley Tisdale; Jessica Simpson; Taylor S.; Kellie Pickler; Julianne Hough with a hot style; Ashlee Simpson with cool long hair; Katherine Heigl in a glam pm look; Samaire Armstrong with a perfect summer shortcut; Miley Cyrus with gentle brunette waves; and Fergie the artist who spills her beauty secrets.

Layers are hot right now but mostly you see traditional layered styles. For the girls who need a little more creativity, this issue offers "Layers with Edge," which are pictures of four different looks (including blonde, brunette, and redhead). They are cool without being extreme; most girls could wear them in all settings including the workplace.

The featured hair salon of the stars is Hairroin Salon in Hollywood, California. The owner is Janine Jarman. Her celebrity client list includes: Christina Applegate; Samaire Armstrong; JC Chasez; Carmen Electra; Fergie; Scarlett Johansson; Lil Kim; Taryn Manning; Mark McGrath; Katharine McPhee; and Mya.

There's a little section for new wedding hairdos that has three different styles. One is short and the others are long.

[+] Fall 2008 Glam Hair Magazine

This hairstyle magazine is now getting a fair bit of promotion more than most mags of its kind. It is a special issue by Celebrity Hairstyles magazine (#58) which features the hot new trends for fall 2008 hairstyles.

The Hollywood Styling Secrets Gallery is big; with 2,500 pictures it is more than twice the average monthly hair magazine (900 pics).

Highlighted styles include Charlize Theron's Curly Bob; Eva's Color; AnnaLynn's Curls; Jessica's Layers; Scarlett Johansson's Updo; and Sharon Stone's Pixie.

This issue of Glam Hair Magazine also features edgy layers; rich hues; chic retro styles; sexy updos; hair accessories including extensions; and wedding looks.

Gwyneth Paltrow is on the cover but the chosen photo seems odd. Her plain straight style that is tucked behind her ear on one side looks cute enough but this isn't exactly a hairstyle that screams glamour. Gwyneth has worn much better formal hairstyles including some nice ones at movie premieres in 2008.

In any event, the 146-page premier issue of Glam Hair is full of many celebrity pictures and, better than most hairstyle magazines, many of them are large images.

If you only buy one hair magazine a year, this is the one to get. It is by the same publisher that has brought us many other hair magazines over the years. $12.95. Available at stores until September 15, 2008.

[+] August 2008 Hair Style Guide

The dark brunette cover girl has a really cool bob haircut with layers. This sleek style kicks in at the front and kicks out at the back with flips. Its edges run very close to the face with a heavy fringe at the top and 'hugging' by her cheeks. It's a brand new bob in the second year of the hair trend.

Celebrity cover girls include Lauren Conrad; Elisha Cuthbert with her new very short haircut; Miley Cyrus; Charlize Theron; and Brittany Snow with her lightly flippy short hair.

More hairdos ideas are inside including sexy summer hairstyles; bridal star looks (eight styles); and "the new volume cuts."

It is the big fall preview edition.

What is the current hair trend? According to Hair Style Guide, "from supermodels to actresses, bangs are the must-have look of the season."

Taking its cues from the Fall Fashion runway shows as a way to predict fall 2008 hairstyle fashion, the hair magazine notes it saw: bone-straight strands; super-tight ringlets; the bob with bangs; lush waves; and graduated layers.

A different hairstyle magazine, though, says bang-free bobs are now in fashion (summer 2008). So perhaps by the fall bangs will be more fashionable.

[+] Summer 2008 Cut and Color Magazine

C+C has 275 new looks and styling tricks you need NOW! The 2008 hair magazine says "Sexy Hair is Back," but when did it ever go out of fashion?

This new issue has Amy Adams on the front cover with her soft, retro-inspired curls. The pic just inside is actually better; her hair in the cover shot looks dull and it doesn't do her beautiful red hair justice.

The cover also features the latest hairstyles of Ali Larter; Katie Holmes; Leighton; Sharon Stone; Ashlee Simpson; Taylor Swift; Megan Fox; and Kristin Cavallari.

Additionally we see a girl with big red-hot curls; a high-gloss blonde bob with some caramel highlighting; and a really cool bushy bob haircut with extreme layers and far-out red highlights. The latest haircolor trends are tri-tones and ribboning.

Which celebrity is wearing the most popular haircuts? Pics inside. The top five most popular or fashionable looks are:

1. Half updos with height
2. Long sleek looks
3. Sexy, unkempt texture
4. Bang-free bobs
5. Smooth mid-lengths

Cut & Color also reveals the 10 hottest trends in hairstyles today.

[+] Sept. 2008 Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide

Katherine Heigl is the cover girl for the current issue of SHG with a big blonde style. She is also joined by other female celebrities: Paris Hilton; Jessica Simpson; Miley Cyrus; Taylor Swift; Carrie Underwood; Rhianna; Jennifer Aniston; Blake Lively; Hilary Duff; and Sharon Stone.

Although it is the latest issue, some of these styles are pre-2008. Jess and Jen's look like they're from a few years ago, and doesn't Katherine now have short hair?

Anyway, inside there are 900 pictures to choose from, including cool new cuts. There is Kristin Chenoweth in a choppy bob; three different Heigl styles (incl. a brunette bob); a Hilary Duff hair and makeup special; several short summer styles; and, finally, a special feature (albeit short) on cuts for women over 50.

SHG spotlights a salon where some stars go to get their hair done in Santa Monica. This month's Beauty Email Interview is with Joanna Garcia.

One of the best sections of this new haircut magazine is the Top 50 Short Celebrity Hairstyles. "Sophisticate's presents 50 of some of the most amazing short cuts from your favorite stars." That spread alone is worth the price of the mag ($5.99) for all you short-haired gals.

There's a quick two-page read with pics on flattering styles for different face shapes. Some visitors have wondered about the face shape of Katie Holmes before copying her famous cut. (It's oval.) Her friend Victoria Beckham's is diamond.

Carrie Underwood's formal hairstyles are popular with teens, so there are pictures and a brief how-to guide to get three of them, including a cute bun hairstyle, on p. 75.

The huge Clip and Snip section offers page after page of the cutest and most colorful hairstyles. Some of these are formal styles; but there is also a two-page feature afterwards on very classy bridal and prom looks.

Near the end, the hairstylist of Katherine Heigl is interviewed about her formal styling: "behind the scenes at the Oscars." Her Academy Award night style got rave reviews at the time. It was a full curly hair design by Sean Flanigan. He discussed the tools, products, and methods he used to make her a woman of distinction.

What's now in fashion?

Below is a new hairstyles magazine for 2008 (August) called Hair Winners 2008--the best of the year so far--from Short Hair magazine. It's for sale on newsstands now. Click the link below for a closer look.

As you can see, the one girl at the left in the middle of the cover has a graduated layered haircut where the layering starts at her full bangs and continues in fine fashion to just above her chin, and then starts again a little way past her chin. It's a cool and edgy haircut for teens in 2008.

Page 20 has "The Top 20 Celebrity Styles." These include pictures of Hayden Panettiere (lush waves); Katie Holmes (bob with bangs); Katherine Heigl (medium haircut with curls); Paris Hilton (black headband); Agyness Deyn (very short with straight blunt bangs); and Minka Kelly (very pretty red highlights in brown hair).

These pics are followed by Kristin Cavallari (loose ponytail); Kristen Bell (mid-length haircut); Leighton Meester (dark hair extensions); Vanessa Hudgens (long thick wavy hair); Sophia Bush (cute and short with gorgeous red hair color); Victoria Beckham (brunette Pob); and Rihanna (hip pixie haircut).

And there's more. You can also see Miley Cyrus with her maxed out extensions; Blake Lively's sexy blonde hair with soft waves; Taylor Swift in her sweet curls; Ashlee Simpson as a redhead; Elisha Cuthbert's new short hairstyle with cute wavy bangs; Carrie Underwood with an easy and adorable side-parted style; and Lauren Conrad with a simple straight look.

Speaking of Lauren, she is the cover girl for the latest Celebrity Hairstyles magazine showing off her retro-glam style.

Then there's Katie Holmes in the popular bob hairstyle; Ashlee with her sexy red hair; and the same Blake Lively hairstyle that made the top 20 of 2008 in the other hair magazine. Finally, the other celebs on the cover were Taylor with her curls; Hayden in a cute new updo; and Sophia's easy style.

Erin O'Connor (February 21, 2010)

The UK fashion model now has very straight bangs like a bowl cut on a short bob. Her new precise haircut is a much cleaner look than last year.

Erin (December 9, 2009)

"Erin O'Connor's big break," says Vogue's UK website, "came during a shoot in Brazil, with photographer David Sims and hairdresser Guido, when she decided to get her hair off." Is her new extreme look hot?
