Bob Haircuts Become The Hottest New Women's Hair Trend in 2007

Anna Wintour must be happy. The fashion editor of Vogue magazine has worn a bob haircut for many years--when nobody else did--and now it's the hottest hairstyle in America.

It was less than two years ago when long hair was all the rage. Now, instead of wanting very long hair in the summer of 2007, women are going to the opposite end of the hairstyling spectrum seeking extreme makeovers: bob hair cuts.

Victoria Beckham, according to some observers, started the hair fashion trend. She had a radical bob in late 2006.

But she was in the UK at that time and American girls didn't pay much attention to her.

However, Jessica Simpson, at least temporarily, was spotted in September 2006 with a bob).

Jenny McCarthy, however, may have seen Posh Spice's new hair style, because by mid-February 2007 she had a similar haircut to her late 2006 cut.

In 2007 Mrs. Beckham was no longer satisfied with her hairstyle, so she had another hair makeover, and changed both her style and color.

She suddenly had a new blonde hairstyle--a new bob--which she wore when she arrived in Los Angeles in the summer.

America gave the British celebrity a lot of publicity shortly afterwards when her reality tv program was broadcast, and since then more girls have been getting a bob, or at least thinking about it.

Katie Holmes got a bob haircut which was discussed in the press without reservation.

So here you had two of the most high-profile celebrities (who happen to live near each other) with bob haircuts. Female public interest started to build.

Rihanna, one of the most popular young black stars, also got a bob haircut in 2007.

Renee Zellweger chopped off her hair and got a new bob hairstyle, too, and it looked as if suddenly the momentum was building to start a new hair trend.

The new celebrity hair trend, boredom, and a hot summer could be enough to inspire girls across America to get a bob.

Wendy Donahue wrote a story for the Chicago Tribune on bob haircuts (" 'Just a trim' is not the trend," Aug. 3, 2007).

"Everyone's tired of the very long hair," said Dawn Bublitz of the Fringe hair salon in Chicago. "We're seeing an increase in people wanting low-maintenance, too."

"It's kind of like Mia Farrow circa 1968 meets Nicole Richie summer of 2007,” said Brenda Berry of the Brilli hair salon in Chicago.
