List of 20 Female Models and Celebrities with Round, Oval, Square, and Heart-Shaped Faces
A few years ago, Marie Claire published a special pull-out guide list of stars categorized according to their face shape. It was in the annual hair issue of their magazine and it was called: "20 Best Cuts for Your Face Shape." Below you can see the names. The pictures are whited out just because of copyright for the photos. But you can find out which celebrities match your own face shape. Use this page as a reference guide and search this site for pics of the women who can model the most flattering styles for you. (There is an asterisk beside those people whose hairstyles are on this site.) Some of the listed ladies are fashion models who aren't necessarily stars you will recognize instantly.

Square-Shaped Faces* Gwyneth Paltrow
Heart-Shaped Faces* Katie Holmes "If you want to look your personal best," says Celebrity Hairstyles magazine, "choosing a haircut that works with your facial shape is a must. It's not only that the right cut can minimize [the look of] a broad forehead or pointed chin; it can also maximize assets like high cheek bones and almond-shaped eyes. "For the fashion forward," they add, "the right cut can even play up features that are unique. Square jaw lines and Roman noses aren't a bad thing for the woman who has a strong sense of style." [CH, Nov. '03, p. 90.]
They are exactly right about square jaws. Some women are getting caught up in the bob craze without considering the shape of their faces. What the magazine article pointed out was that where your haircut ends is where the eye is usually drawn. That's true, isn't it? So cutting your hair to fall opposite your chin just makes the eye focus on the chin or jawline. The effect is even more pronounced if you have a square jaw and get a bob that is not only cut to your chin but also has very straight bangs like the woman in the above picture. It looks like a helmet. Any part of your hairstyle that is straight will emphasize squareness. So look for something wavy or curly. Or at least try a style that is "broken up" or angled in some way (e.g., layers). That's how you can soften your look and make it more feminine. Bangs are good to help reduce the size of large foreheads. Women who usually wear their hair down sometimes forget when they're going to a formal event that an updo isn't so hot if you have a large forehead. Even some celebrities do this and it isn't any more flattering for them.
Nicole Kidman covering up her forehead. This works. Fringe could be a little shorter, though.
Nicole exposing her forehead. This doesn't work.
Kate Beckinsale has a beautiful face and her forehead is proportionately about 1/3. But based on her face shape, her updo would look slightly better if it wasn't so high at the crown. Girls with an oblong face really don't want to extend the look even further with a high top.
